Fall Home Show

At the Home Show, our goal is simple: to inspiremotivate and excite you for your upcoming home improvement – whether it’s a minor renovation or a major remodel.

Our events feature a wide selection of home improvement professionals in a fun, interactive environment. After meeting with and comparing our expert exhibitors, we know you’ll be inspired and motivated to start planning with confidence. More importantly, we want you to be excited for all the fantastic possibilities that come with your project!

When it’s all said and done and you’re ready to celebrate your home, we’ll do a little celebrating ourselves, knowing we had some part in it.

Friday Fest at the Van Wezel
Sep 14 @ 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Join us for The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall’s FREE outdoor summertime concert series! The events run from 5-9pm and are located on the Bayside Lawn of the Van Wezel. Each of the four events will feature food trucks, beverage vendors and more – it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a summer sunset over Sarasota Bay.

While blankets and lawn chairs are welcome at all Friday Fest events, outside food and drink, including coolers, are prohibited. Friday Fest takes place in “rain or shine;” in the event of inclement weather, the festival will move indoors to our grand foyer or main stage of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.

 

DR. DAVE BAND

Wrapping up our Friday Fest series on September 14th is the Dr. Dave Band. A Bradenton favorite performing for more than a decade as a top-choice house band, this group knows how to wow a crowd with high-energy Southern Rock blended with bluegrass banjo and fiddle. The Dr. Dave Band just received the 2018 Reader’s Choice Award for “Best Musical Group” from the Sarasota Herald-Tribune for the third time.

A Taste of Downtown

Now in its fifth year, this established Sarasota tradition will bring you to Sarasota Opera House, where your favorite downtown restaurants will be showcasing their tasty dishes paired with fine wines and assorted beers. Proceeds from this event benefit the Sarasota Youth Opera, who will perform during the event. Come mix & mingle, sample tasty bites, and have a drink with us to celebrate the end of summer in Sarasota!

Museum Day

Participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide free entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day ticket. Mystical Bazaar 2018

Beer Bands & BBQ

Music Compound is excited to present and host the fourth annual Beer, Bands and BBQ event. This event was previously held at the Sarasota Polo Fields. Guests can look forward to local and national beers on draft, local BBQ’s eateries including; Smokin Momma Lora’s BBQ, Solid Slab BBQ, and Pizza SRQ, and local bands. This event brings our local community together and open to all ages. The event will feature a different genre each hour. Bands include: The Good Time Groove Band (Jazz), Auto Kania (Punk Psychedelic Rock), Jah Movement (Reggae), Daisy Dukes Band (Country), Steve Arvey (Blues), Fiyah Wata (Reggae, Rock & Pop) and our headliner, Mumbo Jumbo (Blues and Rock Twang).

Tickets are $15 and include admission, music and parking. Kids 10 and under are free. Food and drinks can be purchased. Be sure to bring your chairs, blankets and dancin boots. Save time at check-in by purchasing your ticket in advance at musiccompound.com.

Giving Hunger the Blues & Jazz on the Bay

In its 22nd year, Giving Hunger The Blues & Jazz On The Bay has become Sarasota’s favorite outdoor music festival. Great music from national, regional and local performers, tasty food from the area’s best restaurants and a diverse group of vendors and local organizations make Giving Hunger The Blues one of the most anticipated events on Sarasota’s annual calendar!

With Sarasota Bay as a backdrop there will be live music with16 national musical, regional and local musical acts. Live music for 2 days! Oct. 12’s line up includes: Hot Club SRQ, Synia Carrol with The Phil Magallanes Trio, Fred Johnson and more. Oct. 13’s line up includes headliner, Sarasota’s own, Lauren Mitchell, the Florida Blues Brothers, Brandi Adams, The Koko Ray 5 and more. A selection of the area’s most delicious restaurants and vendors add to the fun. Proceeds benefit the the Mayor’s Feed the Hungry Program and the Generoso Foundation to feed, protect and nurture children and families in our community.

Howl-O-Ween Movie Night Spooktacular
Oct 13 @ 5:00 pm

Come out to enjoy a movie, games and a Halloween costume parade with the Orioles’ bird out under the stars. Halloween fun will also include a family-friendly Halloween-themed movie, Hocus Pocus, shown on the outfield video board. Bring your blanket for outfield viewing or watch from stadium seating. Concessions available. Coolers are not permitted. No strollers, lawn chairs or high heels allowed on the field. Open to all ages, kids under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Halloween Candlelight Tour Gamble Mansion

16th Annual Goblin Gathering
Oct 19 @ 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Manatee County Parks and Natural Resources Department is celebrating its 16th Annual Goblin Gathering in conjunction with National Night Out at G.T. Bray Park. This year’s event will be held in conjunction with National Night Out, which is a program to strengthen neighborhood spirit and create police-community partnerships to make our community a safe place to live. Bring the family out and join in the costume contest, face painting, hayrides, and bounce houses.

A $5 wristband is sold for children to participate in activities. Parental participation and trick-or-treating is free. Food vendors will have food for purchase. In addition to the above, several local businesses will be participating by passing out “treats & sweets” to participants, providing a safe alternative for children to trick-or-treat.

Tee Time for Tots Golf Tournament

Whether it’s Popeye or Pocahontas, just put on a costume, pick up a putter and help raise money for Sarasota’s littlest learners.

Hit a howl-in-one at the 3rd annual Tee Time for Tots, a Halloween-themed, family-friendly, mini golf fundraiser benefitting the Early Learning Coalition of Sarasota County. This spook-tacular event takes place Saturday, October 27th from 9am to 12pm at Evie’s Miniature Golf Center, 4725 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota. $20 per player or $60 per foursome. Each ticket includes one round of miniature golf, a slice of pizza and a beverage. All proceeds go toward scholarships for children, ages birth to 5, to attain quality early education.

From toddlers and tweens to baby boomers and beyond, this benefit will have something for everyone. In addition to trick or treating at every hole, Tee Time for Tots will feature face-painting, a caricature artist, fun Halloween-themed activities and hands-on sensory tables. Enjoy story time on a quilt under large oaks trees. While costumes are optional, there will be a costume contest with prizes for all ages. Don’t forget to check out our boo-tiful raffle baskets too!

Hounted House – Frightful Fables

State College of Florida, Sarasota-Manatee Venice Pop Culture Club will host its 10th annual haunted house at the Lakeside Pavilion at SCF, Venice. “Frightful Fables” will offer a scary twist on classic childhood fairy tales to anyone who dares to check in. Parents should be aware that even though there is not an age requirement for the haunted house, it may not be appropriate for younger children. The event will take place from 7–10 p.m. on Oct. 23-26 and from 7–11 p.m. on Oct. 27. Tickets will be sold at the door for $3 (cash only).

Spooktacular
Oct 28 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Selby Spooktacular is a playful, family-friendly event. Daytime activities will include traditional, wholesome Halloween happenings like trick or treating and pumpkin decorating, fun and educational activities like seed planting, as well as more frightening (but not too scary) options for older children like a mad scientist experiment center.  Children are encouraged to bring their own trick-or-treat bags to collect their goodies.  Come in costume! Grilled foods will be available for purchase from the Michael’s on East grill.  The Selby House Cafe will also be open with its full menu.  B’s Cool Treat’s will have their ice cream cart on -site with a wide assortment of frozen treats.

Halloween Safe Treats for Kids

Calling all Trick or Treaters!! Ghosts, goblins, princesses, superheroes, all are welcome to venture to Siesta Key for the 33rd year of Siesta Key Safe Treats on Halloween, October 31st.

Little ones are invited to trick-or-treat on October 31st from 3pm to 6pm.

Participating businesses will have orange and black balloons outside their establishment and pumpkin flyers in their windows. Keep an eye out for treats for adults too:)

We are very excited this year because the hunt for candy has widened to include from Siesta Key Village on the North end of the island to also include merchants on South Siesta Key. You can stop into the Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce to get a list of all participating establishments.

Wanna make it extra exciting and really fill up that treatbag? (In my days of trick-or-treating, we used pillowcases:O) Take a ghoulish trip around the island on the Siesta Breeze Trolley. It will be making loops between the Siesta Key Village and Turtle Beach, with multiple stops along the way. This is a great way to see all the local businesses on the island, meet some new people and get lots of candy and treats!!

Annual Sandblast

America Recycles Day at SandBlast – This fun family event draws attention to the natural beauty of our beaches. Held on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico on Anna Maria Island, amateur teams in school and adult divisions compete in a sand sculpture competition and raise funds to support Keep Manatee Beautiful’s programs. Learn the “Tips, Tricks and Techniques” of sand sculpture at free clinics taught by master sculptors Team Sandtastic at sunset on Thursday and Friday, while the competition is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Sarasota Medieval Fair

Ferrari’s on the Circle

Annual Siesta Key Crystal Classic Sand Sculpting Competition
Nov 9 – Nov 12 all-day

The Siesta Key Master Sand Sculpture Contest is both an International and Professional level sculpting competition held each November on Siesta Key Beach. Only about 20 – 25 sculptors compete each year for the grand prize.

This competition among “sand artists,” held every November, is a professional level competition with Thousands of Dollars in prize money.

And to “qualify” for entry into this competition the sculptors must already have won an international contest.

Yes, these professionals are serious about the Siesta Key Master Sand Sculpture Contest and most even earn their livings this way!

Annual St. Armands Circle Art Festival

The St. Armands Circle Art Festival hosts 200 artists in town annually. The event offers art from a broad spectrum of mediums including sculpture, photography, glass, paintings, ceramics, jewelry, mixed media and more! Howard Alan Events offer patrons the opportunity to personally meet with the artists, commission a work of art and learn what inspires the artists work.

There’s jousting, human combat chess tournaments, rides and games along with food and drinks from turkey legs to hearty ales. There’s also Celtic music and the new artisan marketplace with over 100 shops, food, and snack booths plus 11 stages holding over 75 shows daily!

St. Armand’s Circle Fall Festival

Usually held under sunny skies, with warm temperatures, this outdoor festival on my Sarasota Calendar of Events is attended by thousands of art lovers who come to see and buy the works of artists from around the nation. Admission is free, as is parking.

The Beer, Boats and Bacon Fest
Nov 10 @ 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm

It’s time for a brew! The Beer, Boats and Bacon Fest will feature over 60+ craft beers to sample with the General Admission & VIP Ticket. Throughout the event there will be various bacon bites and samples from local restaurants and caterers plus more food available for purchase from over 15 vendors. The festival will have live music, a family friendly section, craft beers sampling and more. Parking $5.

Annual Suncoast Food & Wine Festival
Nov 10 @ 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

This year the traditional Suncoast Food & Wine Fest is Saturday, November 10th. The event will again offer an afternoon of samplings and tastings from a large selection of the area’s finest restaurants as well as a variety of fine wines and other beverages. We have a new location this year – Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch off of State Road 70. Your participation by purchasing a ticket will support this event which provides financial assistance to many of the great charitable organizations within Sarasota and Manatee counties. To date, the Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch has given more than 1.6 Million dollars from festival proceeds to charity.

Canine Christmas Festival and Adopt-A-Thon

Canine Christmas is a pet and family friendly event held on the 3rd Saturday of every November. Our 2018 festival will be our 20th annual! In celebration of 20 years, we’re making this year’s festival a 2 day event! Dozens of local vendors come to Bishop including animal rescues, food trucks, dog groomers and trainers, as well as vendors selling pet and holiday related merchandise so you can get your Christmas shopping done early!

This free festival features adoptions from Bishop and other rescues in the area. There is a Doggy Fashion Show hosted by the Doggy Diva where pups and their owners can take home trophies in different categories. Food trucks arrive serving shaved ice, hot dogs, pizza, and more. Every year we also see the Doggie Fun Zone, an obstacle course where your dog’s agility and speed can be put to the test. You can also get your pet’s photo with Santa for your Christmas card and enjoy our live music performers. Mark your calendars so you can bring your families and children (furry or otherwise) to the biggest four-legged event in town!

All well-mannered and leashed dogs are welcome at this event. Last year’s attendance hit over 3,000 people and their canine companions.

Come to Lakewood Ranch Main Street on November 24-25, 2018 for the 1st Annual Lakewood Ranch Seafood & Music Festival.

Enjoy exquisite and delectable seafood dishes prepared by local restaurants using indigenous and sustainable ocean resources from Florida’s coastal waters. Be entertained by top local and regional musicals groups performing live on stage in such genre as R&B, jazz, classical, calypso, big band sounds and Caribbean. Also enjoy a marketplace of crafts and fine products.

Enjoy scrumptious meals cooked onsite by local restaurants and food purveyors using only the freshest ingredients.  Menu items include grouper, mahi, stone crabs, oysters, shrimp and soft-shell crabs.  Meat entrees include Italian and Polish sausage, steak sandwiches and chicken-on-a-stick. Also, a variety of vegetarian and rice dishes are offered. Seafood dishes are prepared using fresh, local and sustainable ocean resources from the Florida Gulf Coast. Both alcoholic (beer, wine and mixed-drinks) and non-alcoholic drinks (water, sodas and blended fruit drinks) are available.

Hours are both Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. General admission is FREE.

34th Annual Light Up Siesta Key and Village Holiday Parade

The 34th Annual Light Up Siesta Key and Village Holiday Parade will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 5 to 9 PM.  Festive décor and holiday atmosphere will Light Up Siesta Key.  A community Christmas tree will be at the Village Gazebo. The Village Holiday Parade which will begin at Avenida del Mare and Beach Road at 5:30 PM traveling north on Beach Road onto Ocean Blvd. into the Village.  Many businesses and local groups will be participating in the parade and welcoming Santa to Siesta Village.  If you would like to participate in the parade, visitwww.siestakeychamber.com and click on the scrolling event banner at the top of the home page.  There is a $25.00 fee per entry and registration is required.

Santa will arrive at the Siesta Center at approximately 6:15 PM to greet all children.  The first 250 children to see him will receive gift bags donated by Beach Bazaar.  At Siesta Center, there will also be face painting and activities.  Photos may be taken with Santa, free of charge.

Shops and restaurants will offer refreshments and special holiday bargains from 5 to 9 PM.  There will also be live music at various venues, plus carolers and a martial arts demonstration.

Free public transportation is provided courtesy of the Siesta Breeze Trolley from Turtle Beach to the Village (with multiple stops along the route, including Siesta Beach) making it easier for all to participate in the festivities.

Main Street Live!

Old Main Street will be filled with food trucks, and all the businesses — including the bars, pubs and restaurants — along Old Main Street will be open for business as usual.

Besides the food trucks, lots of local merchants will be setting up shop along the street for the evening. So you can get some shopping done while you’re chowing down, listening to the local live music, and dancing in the street.

Manatee River Holiday Boat Parade

The Manatee River Holiday Boat Parade is a staple of the Bradenton/Palmetto holiday calendar. Volunteers sign up to decorate their boats for chances at cash prizes. Spectators are invited to watch the parade from public locations at Regatta Pointe Marina / Riverhouse Reef & Grill, the Green Bridge Fishing Pier, and Twin Dolphin Marina / PIER 22. Bring the whole family to watch beautiful parade boat floats light up the night and the Manatee River!

Public Viewing Locations & Estimated Arrival Times:

Boats take off from Snead Island area at the cross beginning at dusk approximately 6:30 p.m.
Westside portions of Riverside Drive on Palmetto side with boats arriving at approximately 8:15 p.m.
Riverhouse Reef & Grill with boats arriving at approximately 8:15 p.m. *Dinner reservations required
