Siesta Key Sand Sculpture Contest
May 5 @ 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

A Siesta tradition for more than 45 years, the Siesta Beach Sand Sculpting Contest, sponsored by Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources offers participants of all ages a free day of fun on the beach from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come with buckets and shovels in hand and great ideas for your creation. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Cash prizes awarded.

Classic Corvette Car Show
May 5 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Come join us in beautiful St. Armand’s Circle where you can spend the day viewing over 150 models of an American automotive classic and visiting the great St. Armands stores and restaurants as we present the 22nd annual “Corvettes on the Circle” show sponsored by the Skyway Corvette Club of Sarasota/Bradenton, Sunset Chevrolet, and the St. Armands Circle Association. The show will include all Corvette model years from the classic 1953 C1 to the current 2018 C7 Corvette Stingray, Grand Sport, Z06 and possibly the recently announced 2019 ZR1!  Trophies will be awarded to the top three Corvettes in each generational class as well as Best Interior, Best Engine Bay, Best Paint Finish, Best in Show and Skyway Corvette Club Favorite.  The show proceeds will be donated to The Honor Flight of West Central Florida, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing veterans with honor and closure. The show will run from 9:00am to 3:00pm, with registration and show parking taking place between 7:00am to 9:00am.  For further information regarding this year’s show and registration, please contact the 2018 Show Chairman, Allen Harmsen at 941-993-4201.

Venice Seafood & Music Festival
May 5 @ 11:00 am – May 6 @ 7:00 pm

Welcome to the 2nd Annual Venice Seafood & Music Festival to be held on May 5-6, 2018 in Centennial Park.  Hours are Saturday 11am-8pm and Sunday 11am – 7pm.  General admission is free.  VIP Tent admission is $130 that includes an open raw bar serving raw oysters, steamed snow crab, steamed peel-and-eat shrimp and an open bar serving premium drinks, all in a private tent with a dedicated service staff. The tent’s location enjoys optimal viewing of the live music performances.  VIP tickets are available thru EventLive (click on the EventLive icon below).

The event is created, as are all good meals, thru incorporating and blending the finest ingredients.  We offer all food entrees (seafood, meat and vegetarian) prepared fresh onsite by local restaurants and food purveyors.  Seafood dishes are created using indigenous and sustainable ocean resources from Florida’s coastal waters.  Foods will be accompanied by a delicious assortment of side dishes, desserts and drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

While enjoying your meal and drinks, be caressed by the captivating sounds of live musical performances on stage by some of Florida’s and the region’s top musical talents.  Music will be from such genres and R&B, jazz, rock, reggae and Caribbean sounds. Join us for Sarasota Orchestra’s Outdoor Pops: Field of Dreams concert at Ed Smith Stadium at 8 p.m. on either Friday, May 11 or Saturday, May 12, 2018.

Broadway stars Deedee Magno Hall and Cliffton Hall will headline the Sarasota Orchestra’s “Field of Dreams” concert May 11 and 12, 2018 at Ed Smith Stadium, spring training home for the Orioles. Conducted by Andrew Lane, the musicians of the Sarasota Orchestra will play a wide range of audience favorites from a stage on the outfield grass. The concert includes songs from Les MisérablesLa La Land, and Grease, music from the westerns and Disney, as well as an orchestral rendition of the score from the movie Field of Dreams.

Married couple and musical theater stars Deedee Magno Hall and Cliffton Hall are currently appearing in the rock musical Next to Normal. Deedee appears as Jasmine on Disney’s Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular soundtrack and is currently the voice of Pearl in the animated series Steven Universe. The couple performed together in the touring production Miss Saigon. Deedee later played the role of Nessa Rose on the first national tour of Wicked.

Each performance of the “Field of Dreams” program will end with a fireworks display. This marks the fifth consecutive year the Sarasota Orchestra has participated in the Orioles’ “Arts in the Ballpark” series.

Parking is $5 in the East and North Lots, with a portion of proceeds supporting the Sarasota YMCA. Concessions will be available for purchase.

Mother’s Day Brunch

Celebrate Mom at our Mother’s Day Brunch on the Bay at the beautiful Powel Crosley Estate located on Sarasota Bay. Venice Brew Bash VII

Due to road construction in the downtown Venice area the City of Venice made it mandatory for all events being held in Centennial park to relocate. So we have moved the Venice Brew Bash, this year only, to the Venice Community Center!  The event will take place inside the Community Center and we have created a separate Party Zone outside so we can have the best of both worlds. 60+ beer sampling, merchant vendors and NoFilter Band will be located inside the Venice Community Center. Tickets will be required to access this area. Sampling tickets are $35 pre-sale / $45 at the door. Designated driver tickets are $5. 

The Party Zone outside is free to the general public will offer food items from local restaurants and food trucks, beers on draft, limited merchant vendors and additional entertainment. Ticket holders will be able to access both spaces.

We have over 20 new breweries coming out to participate in the event this year.

Annual Myakka River Blues Festival

Snook Haven along with the Suncoast Blues Society present the 7th Annual Myakka River Blues Festival on Memorial Day. This year’s headliner is The Rusty Wright Band from Michigan. The lineup also includes The Dale Robbins Band from Australia, Harmonica Wizard Dockta D from Baltimore, Sarasota Slim, Nitro Boseman and many more.  Snook Haven is off the beaten path, near the riverbed in a natural cove with true old Florida ambiance. The Manatee-Sarasota Building Industry Association invites you to partner for the Sarasota Slam in Sarasota, Florida. This event has become one of Southwest Florida’s most endeared fishing tournaments. We understand and appreciate that the anglers are what make the event. We appreciate and love having them back year after year.

After 15 years, this event has already made a name for itself in the fishing community. Anglers are greeted by an amazing location and staff and treated to a top-notch event. More than 500 anglers competed and reeled in over $500,000 in cash prizes over the years.

The tournament also reaches out to the community by supporting local organizations such as: Harvest House, Homes for our Troops, The Boys and Girls Clubs, The Make-A-Wish Foundation, Suncoast Foundation for the Handicapped, Camp Florida Fish Tales, American Cancer Society, Noah Beck Foundation, Future Builders of America, Salvation Army, Meals On Wheels and many more.

Fireworks on the Lake

FANFARES & FIREWORKS will feature a variety of musical groups, an opportunity for families to picnic in the grass and a spectacular fireworks show.

The musical line-up includes The Greg Billings Band, a group with an expanded repertoire that include many soul and rhythm and blues classics. Albert Castiglia an American blues singer, songwriter and guitarist. He made his professional debut in 1990 with Miami Blues Authority, but truly hit the international radar when Junior Wells invited him into his solo band for several world tours.

Myakka River Kayak Festival

Celebrate the 4thof July with family and friends at Snook Haven at the 5th Annual Myakka River Kayak Festival – 4th of July Jam Blast! This fun family event will take place from 8 AM to 4 PM on Wednesday, July 4th. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the 4th of July during the day, plus you can still make it to the beach afterwards for fireworks!

Live musical entertainment will take place from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm. Artists include Treble Hook and Steve Arvey, plus a few more surprises along the way! Performers will bring a unique and powerful Americana/Bluegrass sound to the Snook Haven stage. It will be a day full of great music and great food in a fantastic “Old Florida” setting!

Kayak and canoe rentals will be available starting at 8:00 am, or you can bring your own. No cover charge for entrance.

The festival will benefit Friends of Sarasota County Parks, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of parks in Sarasota County.

Sarasota Lionfish Derby
Jul 6 – Jul 8 all-day

You’re invited to partner in the fifth annual Sarasota Lionfish Derby! This exciting and environmentally beneficial event will be hosted by Mote Marine Laboratory, a world-class marine science institution, in cooperation with Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF), which helps study and address the lionfish invasion and sanctions official Lionfish Derbies.

Lionfish Derbies are an important way to harvest large numbers of this invasive species that has spread along the eastern Atlantic coast, Columbia to Escambia counties. Derbies help divers harvest lionfish and provide public education.

This year’s event will be based at Mote, with a captain’s meeting on July 6, lionfish hunting July 7 in the beautiful Gulf of Mexico — tournament boundaries are defined as Collier County to Escambia County — and the lionfish weigh-in July 8 at Mote Marine Laboratory. Cost to participate in the Derby is $120.00 per team (minimum 2 people per team, maximum 4 people). The public is invited to join Mote scientists and derby participants at the weigh-in for educational dissections and lionfish tastings on Sunday.  To sign up a team up, click the Register button to the right!

10th Annual Sarasota Improv Festival

Shark Days at Mote Marine

Fort Hamer Bridge Run

Join us for the 2nd Annual Fort Hamer Bridge 5K/10K. Race event commences at 7:30 am sharp by the Fort Hamer Rowing Facility and goes over Fort Hamer Bridge to the south side and then turns back into the beautiful The Islands of the Manatee River Subdivision. There will be chip timing by Lakeshore Athletic Service providers to the Chicago Marathon, colorful moisture wicking t-shirts. Special crafted awards to winners and categories three deep from 9 & under to 80+. Great after party with adult beverages with proper I.D. All 5K/10K finishers receive signature a commemorative Ft Hamer Bridge medal.

Plenty of water stops are planned to keep you hydrated. 

After race festivities include Under River activities:
Manatee County Youth Rowing will be hosting an open house and will have coaches, athletes and parents available for questions about fall, spring and summer programs. Athletes will give tours of the boathouse. Boats will be set up so that race participants can see the boats up close and learn the basics of the boats. ERG’s (rowing machines) will be set up for simulating rowing experience. They will also have Kayaks and paddleboards so you can enjoy the beauty of the Manatee River while supporting a great local sports organization – Manatee County Youth Rowing (MCYR)

Friday Fest at the Van Wezel

Join us for The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall’s FREE outdoor summertime concert series! The events run from 5-9pm and are located on the Bayside Lawn of the Van Wezel. Each of the four events will feature food trucks, beverage vendors and more – it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a summer sunset over Sarasota Bay.

While blankets and lawn chairs are welcome at all Friday Fest events, outside food and drink, including coolers, are prohibited. Friday Fest takes place in “rain or shine;” in the event of inclement weather, the festival will move indoors to our grand foyer or main stage of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.

 

DR. DAVE BAND

Wrapping up our Friday Fest series on September 14th is the Dr. Dave Band. A Bradenton favorite performing for more than a decade as a top-choice house band, this group knows how to wow a crowd with high-energy Southern Rock blended with bluegrass banjo and fiddle. The Dr. Dave Band just received the 2018 Reader’s Choice Award for “Best Musical Group” from the Sarasota Herald-Tribune for the third time.

A Taste of Downtown

Now in its fifth year, this established Sarasota tradition will bring you to Sarasota Opera House, where your favorite downtown restaurants will be showcasing their tasty dishes paired with fine wines and assorted beers. Proceeds from this event benefit the Sarasota Youth Opera, who will perform during the event. Come mix & mingle, sample tasty bites, and have a drink with us to celebrate the end of summer in Sarasota!

Museum Day

Beer Bands & BBQ

Music Compound is excited to present and host the fourth annual Beer, Bands and BBQ event. This event was previously held at the Sarasota Polo Fields. Guests can look forward to local and national beers on draft, local BBQ’s eateries including; Smokin Momma Lora’s BBQ, Solid Slab BBQ, and Pizza SRQ, and local bands. This event brings our local community together and open to all ages. The event will feature a different genre each hour. Bands include: The Good Time Groove Band (Jazz), Auto Kania (Punk Psychedelic Rock), Jah Movement (Reggae), Daisy Dukes Band (Country), Steve Arvey (Blues), Fiyah Wata (Reggae, Rock & Pop) and our headliner, Mumbo Jumbo (Blues and Rock Twang).

Giving Hunger the Blues & Jazz on the Bay

In its 22nd year, Giving Hunger The Blues & Jazz On The Bay has become Sarasota’s favorite outdoor music festival. Proceeds benefit the the Mayor’s Feed the Hungry Program and the Generoso Foundation to feed, protect and nurture children and families in our community.

Howl-O-Ween Movie Night Spooktacular

Come out to enjoy a movie, games and a Halloween costume parade with the Orioles’ bird out under the stars. Halloween fun will also include a family-friendly Halloween-themed movie, Hocus Pocus, shown on the outfield video board. Bring your blanket for outfield viewing or watch from stadium seating. Concessions available. Coolers are not permitted. No strollers, lawn chairs or high heels allowed on the field. Open to all ages, kids under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. 16th Annual Goblin Gathering

Manatee County Parks and Natural Resources Department is celebrating its 16th Annual Goblin Gathering in conjunction with National Night Out at G.T. Bray Park. This year’s event will be held in conjunction with National Night Out, which is a program to strengthen neighborhood spirit and create police-community partnerships to make our community a safe place to live. Bring the family out and join in the costume contest, face painting, hayrides, and bounce houses.

A $5 wristband is sold for children to participate in activities. Parental participation and trick-or-treating is free. Food vendors will have food for purchase. In addition to the above, several local businesses will be participating by passing out “treats & sweets” to participants, providing a safe alternative for children to trick-or-treat.

Tee Time for Tots Golf Tournament

Whether it’s Popeye or Pocahontas, just put on a costume, pick up a putter and help raise money for Sarasota’s littlest learners.

Hit a howl-in-one at the 3rd annual Tee Time for Tots, a Halloween-themed, family-friendly, mini golf fundraiser benefitting the Early Learning Coalition of Sarasota County. This spook-tacular event takes place Saturday, October 27th from 9am to 12pm at Evie’s Miniature Golf Center, 4725 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota. $20 per player or $60 per foursome. Each ticket includes one round of miniature golf, a slice of pizza and a beverage. All proceeds go toward scholarships for children, ages birth to 5, to attain quality early education.

From toddlers and tweens to baby boomers and beyond, this benefit will have something for everyone. In addition to trick or treating at every hole, Tee Time for Tots will feature face-painting, a caricature artist, fun Halloween-themed activities and hands-on sensory tables. Enjoy story time on a quilt under large oaks trees. While costumes are optional, there will be a costume contest with prizes for all ages. Don’t forget to check out our boo-tiful raffle baskets too!
